Rubies of Foolishness

My mama and daddy
They tried to teach me
All their Pearls of Wisdom
But I have to confess
That all I have left
Are just these Rubies of Foolishness

I wish I could tell you
I learned my lesson
I wish I could show you
I save money and I pick good men
But when I look back I see only one track
It’s my business counting Rubies of Foolishness

Now I been to school
I get The Golden Rule
I even been to church
I give my level best
But I only get less
I’m rich with Rubies of Foolishness

I wish I could tell you…
It’s my business counting Rubies of Foolishness

My friends all mean well
With the stories they tell
All their advice is free
But love is a test
No room to second-guess
You’ll just get Rubies of Foolishness

I wish I could tell you…
It’s my business counting Rubies of Foolishness
When am I going to learn
How many more do I have to earn
Pretty, pretty Rubies of Foolishness
Rubies of Foolishness
